Reactionary Islamism - Mathias Wåg
The Arab Spring's wave of protests were followed by counterrevolution. The old regimes returned and directed their repression both towards the left and moderate political islamism. Other regimes were turned to rubble and left weakened. In that void jihadism has found room to grow and become a political power once again. Collateral damage in Syria and Iraq
Some cursory thoughts on the imminent bombing of Syria / ISIS
An immediate and unthinking call to bomb a country following a terrorist outrage committed by individuals is the gruesome manifestation of the worst aspects of nationalism, patriotism, and revenge, from faux-strongmen who dress up their dick-swinging and reactionary positions to give the impression that they are the only people prepared to defend national security….

This is an article which will be appearing in the ICC paper this month under their new section of 'readers contributions'. In it I deal with the question of the historical roots of Islam and compare the original movement of Mohammad with the present day movement of 'Jihadists' such as ISIS. It also deals in general with the problem of reification and its connection to the older concept of idolatry and its role in these social phenomena.
The proletariat has to take up the struggle against religious fanaticism which reinforces the state and increases divisions within the exploited - Mouvement Communiste and Kolektivně proti kapitálu
The text against religious "fideism" which forms the body of this leaflet was mostly written before the Charlie Hebdo/Kosher Supermarket attacks and was not intended as a response to these events. But then events forced our hand! Some of the text proved very prescient, particularly the comments about anti-Semitism. Some comrades distibuted this leaflet at the massive "Je suis Charlie" demo. It was possibly the only "political" tract handed out there.
