Who really owns the city?

The Edinburgh council politics of Disneyfication of the city centre is in front of us. We see it in the never ending festival nightmare that haunts the whole city, and invades the city centre. Some people might even like it, performers take over the city centre, every street and location is filled with comedy, music and art, but often behind a curtain of light entertainment there is a different picture.

In the past two months, a right-wing acceleration of political processes took the name of “Brexit”; in parallel, and almost as a counterpart to this, in the past few weeks a different kind of politics emerged from the workplaces and the real-life of refugees struggles. Scottish Govt – Act Now to Stop “Catastrophic Impact” of Cuts on Disabled Community

Disability campaigners and their allies are urging the Scottish Government to act NOW to stop the horrendous benefits cuts being inflicted on disabled people. Following a demonstration at the Scottish Parliament activists from Black Triangle and Disability History Scotland presented a petition with this demand to be considered by the First Minister.
