Battaglia Comunista

What Does the Communist Left Do?

What we will focus on in the following is how we understand the inseparable link between theory and practice and how that reflects on our activity.

The Pandemic and the Worsening Crisis: Some Reflections on the Consequences and Perspectives

This short reflection is a synthesis of ideas common to various comrades, from different areas, with whom we frequently discuss. In fact, some of the considerations here are now becoming an integral and shared perspective beyond that of any one organisation. This gives us hope that in the near future the most politically aware elements will recognise that we are all travelling in the same direction.

The Left, Still Clinging onto Gramsci

If we take this opportunity to criticise Gramsci’s "thought", it is because it is back in fashion with layers of intellectuals dedicated to reworking socio-political "categories" that Gramsci's idealism left as a legacy to his followers.

Reflections on Coronavirus and the Economic Crisis

Leaving aside for a moment the issue of “fake news” conspiracy theories circulating in the ether about the origins of the virus, that whether by accident or deliberately American laboratories engineered it themselves (with all the implications this would have on international imperialist scenarios), let us confront the problem in simple terms, based on what the theorists are saying about the possibility of coming out of this latest financial-economic crisis.

Coronavirus is Not the Same for All

We are happy to publish this correspondence with an Italian comrade translated by the IWG. It illustrates, once again, despite all the propaganda that “we are all in this together”, what the working class really represents for capital … lambs to the slaughter, especially in dramatic situations like the one we live in.

Capitalism Grappling with Coronavirus

Coronavirus has now become a pandemic that none of us wished for. And the response of the society in which we live only demonstrates the absurdity of its economic laws which cannot cope with sudden calamities and natural upheavals, including the climate and environmental disasters also looming on the horizon.

Class Struggle in the Time of Coronavirus: An Incomplete Chronicle of Events (16-21 March)

The following review is a small depiction of what’s happening in the world, outside Italy (for the situation in Italy, see: leftcom.org).

Italy: "We're not Lambs to the Slaughter!" Class Struggle in the Time of Coronavirus

The line that divides this entire society into two social classes is today, in the time of coronavirus, clearer than ever.

Demonstration and Strike of Peroni Workers at Tor Sapienza (Rome)

On February 29th we (comrades from the CWO and Battaglia Comunista) were at the solidarity demonstration with the warehouse workers of the Italian-Japanese company Peroni in Tor Sapienza, Rome. The workers there are carrying on a bitter struggle for better working conditions which started with a week-long strike.

Initial Thoughts on Coronavirus and its Fallout

The article which follows is a translation from Battaglia Comunista 3 (March 2020), paper of our Italian affiliate, the Internationalist Communist Party. Italy has currently one of the worst death rates from coronavirus (4%), higher even than China’s. This despite locking down over a dozen towns in Lombardy, closing all schools and universities throughout the country, banning public gatherings and telling Italians who attend any social gatherings that they should keep one metre in any direction away from the next person.
