1944: Guatemala General Strike Overthrows Dictator

Workers and students in neighbouring El Salvador had driven out their dictator by using a general strike to cripple the regime. That same year Guatemalan workers and students also made use of strikes and mass demonstrations to oust their Dictator.

French West African Rail Workers Strike: 1947-48

In 1947 rail workers in French West Africa (Senegal, Benin, Ivory Coast and Guinea) struck throughout the region in protest over a discriminatory benefit regime.

Senegal General Strike: 1945-46

Rising prices and stagnant wages led to a strike wave in the French colony of Senegal. In addition to wage increases the strike forced the governor to recognise workers organisations and influences over struggles in the region.
