Do we need a meeting to plan/discuss the @itWM tour?

Just been reading the other WMA thread, and GT has posted a list of prospective dates for stalls in different towns/cities, starting from the 16th/17th January (aside - I would like to point out this is also the Reclaim the Bases weekend, so there might be a clash for some people).

Does anyone else think that we need to have a meeting (preferably a pretty big one) before then in order to discuss/plan? OK so people might not know exactly which dates they will be able to make (i don't know what my work rotas are going to be yet, for example), but we can discuss things like the exact places in each town centre we are going to put the stall (taking into consideration stuff like companies we want to target, feasibility of having a stall near them without getting harassed/arrested, who exactly we want to "aim" the stall at, etc), who is around, whether we want to have specific stuff in each town, whether we want to link with other local groups eg. animal rights groups,etc...

Would it be too short notice to propose next weekend (Jan 10th/11th) for a meeting? Or would that not leave enough time before the first stall?

Alternatively of course we could have the whole discussion here on enrager, but this board seems to move so slowly that i dont know if that is feasible... i think it would be good to bring together at least one person who knows each of the towns we are planning to do a stall in, in order to plan this and talk in real time about any potential issues (eg possible disagreements about what might go on the stall).

For example I know Leamington and Coventry - IMHO, one good place in Coventry would be by the Lady Godiva statue (Cathedral Lanes), as it's near a Wilkinsons and pretty central, but it's also the cliche Goth Youth Hangout, which has advantages and disadvantages, in that there is a ready-made receptive crowd, but we might be likely to alienate the non-goth youths of Coventry who wouldn't go there. There's also the Lower Precinct (where there are quite often stalls of various kinds) and Bedford Street (nr Dog &Trumpet) which is next to an Armed Forces recruitment centre. In Leamington there isn't anywhere particular which is obvious, but near the top of the Parade near Woolworths is where the animal rights and anti-GM people often have stalls. Other people will obviously have knowledge of the other locations in the Midlands and where it would be possible to put stalls...

Unfortunately i can't host a meeting, so somewhere else will have to be found if we decide to have one...

What do people think?

go ahead and have a meeting, can't make one. i think i'll probably be at the class war conference in norwich on the 17th so i wouldn't be able to do that stall, but i can pass the stuff on to someone else if a few of you are free then, that's the one we need the least number of people for. i reckon it be maybe just to have the first couple deffinite by the time we do the first one, and then after we've done it have another meeting to discuss it and get all the others sorted properly. what do people think?

Yeah lets have a meeting, maybe up birmingham city centre or something, just to talk about who can do what and when.

Also a friend has agreed to help do some leaflets and artwork for WMA when we need it, so anything that we could print to help with the stalls or campaigns i can ask her to help out a cook us up some pretty leaflets.

sunday or thursday would prob be ok for me, but sunday evening *might* be a meeting in leamington about a kineton army base action, so it would be easier (if its in brum) to make it fairly early sun afternoon for me...

i've made a page about the tour on the website, haven't linked to it from the main page yet, what do people think? i'll make a nice banner type ad for the front page tomorrow, and maybe after the meeting we could get freedom and people to advertise the dates?

2 sounds good to me, gives me plenty of time before the Reclaim the Bases meeting in Leamington at 7 (which if anyone wants to come to, PM me or talk to me at the WMA meeting). smile

Basil Brush Strikes Fear Into the West Midlands' Ruling Classes:

above is the graphic i've designed to stick on our front page to entice people to look at our tour page. it could also be modified to be used as an ad in other stuff i suppose. what do people think? apart from completely changing the entire thing to something different here are the things i can easily change:

- i can add fire and smoke to the town hall where basil has rammed his flag

- i can not have basil ramming the town hall with his flag

- all fonts can be changed

- all text can be changed

- the background to the brum skyline can be changed

- i can add a whole load of other shit in the back ground if people give me ideas.

however, it'll be much harder after saturday, so get your comments in fast!
