Defend Council Housing - 28/01/06

Defend council housing are going on a big push in brum in the new year and there will be a big meeting held in brum at the end of january.

It is an important issue, and it is something which affects alot of workers across the midlands and nationally for that matter. I was hoping to go but as you all know i work on a saturday so i was hoping would members of WMA like to go and help us get connected with this campaign? Thats unless people have objections to the campaign or wma getting involved.

Its not an swp front group, and i dont think its dodgy even if it was a swp link, the defence of affordable housing is not something that we disagree with the swp about.

We have huge differences on how we want to organise our organisations and we differ how the revolution should be carried out, but we do not differ with them on the issue of decent affordable housing, and that really is what should be focusing on for the time being.

We can enclose ourselves of from socialist comrades and remain marginalised and out of touch with the wider movement against private housing or we can enter a coalition of groups which support our short term aims on housing and help in resisting the ongoing privatisation and theft aswell as spreading our ideas and building our organisations.

I for one would be quite happy supporting it. If were involved then maybe we can influence it in a non-SWP way so that it gets better.

I don't think anyone likes working with the SWP, but they're gonna try and get their grubby little mitts on everything and if we abandon the field to them then all thats left is to sit round at the pub wink
