Enrager History - Attica page, suggestions...

This link about Attica on the Enrager history section is not good enough IMHO;http://www.enrager.net/history/articles/attica/

There were a few flaws in it's facts, and a lot was left out too that should have been included. Perhaps;

1) The mention of the 4500 live rounds of ammunition fired on the prisoners. Over 40 died in Attica, not 39 (small point i know, but we should get it right).

2) The state cover up including, deliberate avoidance of rules to leave no trace of who had what weapon and what bullets, bulldozering of the Attica yard to hide evidence, the legal obstructions for decades...

3) I got no feel for class consciousness from the article, nor was the deliberate slaughter linked to wider efforts to smash the black/working class movement at the time by capital and the state.

4) The level of brutalisation by the state was not addressed properly- all 1200 or so prisoners were beaten and humiliated, my memory fails me a bit but there were also nearly 200 with bullet wounds, some 'leaders' were marked with an 'X' on their back (clearly targetted for 'anything goes') and told that if they moved they would be shot.

5) Men were left to die in the yard, and some did, as no medical help was arranged prior to the assault - a deliberate policy to increase the harm and numbers of dead.

6) The wave of unrest that followed the assault should have been linked, and built into the changing of prisoners 'criminal' consciousness to class consciousness, and the movement/struggle that people like George Jackson encouraged...

If you would like to re-write it, adding those aspects to the article it'd be much appreciated! (making sure it doesn't run over 2,000 words wink)

I could do if time is available... 43 were killed at Attica from a Freedom Archives source...

Also take a look at the Prison Industrial workshop at the ESF put on by the Wombles...
