Anarchism and spiritual/religious beliefs

the argument is based on the christian concept of god (or at least how bakunin saw it), and he wrote a big thing about how if god is everything, then it logically follows that we are nothing and worthless, and that god is therefore the ultimate authority from which the concept of all other forms of authority flow. i'm not entirely sure if i agree with that for some personal cases, but generally from the cases of belief in god that i've come across, i have to agree with old beardy there.

if the theory's based on that conception of god then it's a long way from mine which probably explains why it's such an issue. I personally think christianity as an institution and in it's strictly biblically-defined form sucks on a whole lot of issues. If that was how I saw god and believed that god existed (apart from god being apparently pretty schizophrenic) I'd be pretty fucked off with god. I still don't see why so many people think that having any sort of spiritual beliefs is counter-productive.

I think people holding 'spirtual' beliefs is interesting. Altruism is surely a good example of solidarity? The problem comes with those supposed 'spiritual' people who are also religious, believe in God and wouldn't know an altruistic/spiritual act if it smacked them in the head. These tend to be those types who have to knock on your front door constantly pretending they want to save you, when in fact they are there for themselves. Not suprising people mistake 'spirituality' with religion.

My ex used to be a Hare Krishna. I met her just after she moved out of living in a temple and had decided there wasn't any God, but spirituality she could cope with. She still meditated by chanting constantly for years...will never forget her in Traffalgar Square prayer beads in one hand and brick in the other! It was love at first sight!
