Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's autonomy update.

We have an events calendar on the GAP website that we will endeavour to

Critical Mass

A happy coincidence of cyclists (i.e. YOU) getting together to ride through Glasgow, have fun and make our streets more human, less hostile. All welcome!


Meet up 5:30pm, George Sq., on Friday the 28th of January, and ongoing at the same time and place every last Friday of the month.


Glasgow Anarchist Dayschool

11am-6pm Saturday 29th January.

Kinning Park Complex, Cornwall St. Opposite Kinning Park underground station.

Debates and presentations, workshops and stalls, on a diverse issues that concern the anarchist

movement. Come along and expand your understanding of many issues and

of other comrades' opinions.

GAP Film Night Extravaganzas

Week 1 (Tues 1st Feb, 7pm):

Come along and attend the Glasgow Autonomous Project's latest venture, and help support the creation of an autonomous social centre. Tickets on sale on the night, in the Pearce Institute. The showing will take place in the Pearce Institute in Govan, in the Pearce Institute's inhouse cinema. Refreshments and popcorn will be available.

The theme of our first evening's showing will be "Taking back the streets"

Our main feature for the night,(1hr20min) will be 'Reclaim the Streets: the film'.

'Reclaim the Streets ! is born, a cocktail of raging love, revolutionary carnival, art and anarchy'

Plus Other short films: Disarm DSeI; Glasgow Mayday 1937; and others.


Glasgow Zapatista Solidarity Group Meeting

The next meeting of the group will be on Sunday 23rd January at 3pm at the Carnival Arts Centre, 2nd

Floor, 34 Albion Street, Trongate.

The main topics for discussion will be our next big benefit gig for the Health Centre in March, and improving the website.

The Glesca Brainch holds open meetings at the Lansdowne Parish Kirk from 7:30pm (Kelvinbridge), come along and take part.


IWW Clydeside branch meeting - 2nd February.

International Workers of the World (Wobblies) are a militant, democratic, syndicalist union.

IWW Clydeside meets first Wednesday of every month, 7:30 - 9pm. Pearce Institute, Govan Rd. (opposite the shopping centre, 2 minutes walk from Govan Underground)




Weekend of action - 22nd-23rd January and 26th-27th February.

So far, the plans are just to be at Donald Dewar statue at the top of Buchanan St from 1-3pm.

More ideas and practical plans welcome.



Anti War forum

There is to be another anti-war forum to take place in the Kinning Park Centre, on Tuesday the 8th of February. Details to follow shortly. Enquiries to resistwar@hotmail.co.uk


Troops Out vigils:

Candleless vigils continue from 5:30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays at the top of Buchanan Street, by the Donald Dewar statue, to highlight the continuing slaughter in Iraq.

There are nearly 800 British soldiers wounded which means that the war in the South of Iraq has been more violent than the media have reported. (The Times Tues, 18th 2005)



Picket of Weir Pumps

Come along and help picket Weir Pumps on the 29th of January at 3pm, at their depot in Cathcart.

Weir Pumps is a subsidiary of Haliburton and jointly owns Devonport Management Limited along with KBR, a Halliburton subisdary. DML run Devonport where Trident nuclear missile submarines are re-fitted.

There will also be a phone blockade of Weir Pumps on the 3rd of February.




"Benefit" Club Night

On Saturday 22nd at Carnival Arts Centre (34 Albion St, off Trongate), from 9 till late, "Benefit" a new club night with music from the classier side of dance / electronica. £3 donation, money goes to anti-g8 groups.


Reshape meeting:

Reshape Glasgow is the local Glasgow group organizing as part of the Dissent! Network, an organisation that aims to provide non-hierarchical opposition to the G8 when it arrives in Gleneagles in Strathearn, later this year.

Dissent! Conference 12-13th February

The Dissent! Network is trying to non-hierarchically oppose the G8 when it comes to Gleneagles this summer. There is an organisational conference of the network in Glasgow this February.
