Stop Police Terror...

Just came across this website / campaign. Anyone heard anything about it? Seems to be muslim based...

Quote:
Stop Police Terror is a campaign that was launched on 10 December 2003 by the friends and families of the victims of British Anti-Terrorist Police human rights abuse. It was initiated after the continuing arrests and harrassment by Britain's Anti-Terrorist Police and domestic Intelligence Service, MI5, reached an unacceptable level. We have come together to say that enough is enough and that Britain's Muslims, as a community, will refuse to cooperate with the law enforcement authorities if this abuse continues.

We have learnt today from their solicitor Mudassar Arani that three of them have been denied the use of their spectacles. This is after 12 days of being suspects interrogated and being allowed to use them. Up to now there had been no problems.

However today it seems due to frustrations of the Police interrogation, these spectacles were deemed a health and safety hazard! These three political suspects have eyesight’s that are so poor that they are unable to read their defence documents as well as the Quran. Their attempt to continue reading has caused them to suffer from severe headaches. This has affected their concentration in the interrogation room and their prayers.

Its fucking sickening, maybe we should try and pull together something?

But i dont think jumping into bed with the groups involved in this would be a good idea, M.A.B. is involved, and we dont wanna be liek teh trots now.

And where were the Muslims when the Irish were getting this treatment?

In reality, we have to consider this, can we make a considerable impact on police terror? whilst popular thought supports the tactics used to root out "terrorists"?

Disgustingly racist, eh? That's a first for me. Considering the source it could be intended as a compliment. Or are there acceptable and unacceptable forms of bigotry? Bog-trotting Culchies si, Muslims no.

Believe me, I didn't set out to offend your sensibilities, r68. I didn't know you had any.

afaik, there weren't many muslims living in britain when irish immigration was getting the same racist opposition as muslim immigration is now...

those muslims who were there might not even have been aware of the harassment of the irish etc. obviously, now it's happening to their own communities, they are becoming aware, and are likely to become aware of similar harassment and victimisation towards other minorities, which i think is a good thing, even if it hasn't touched upon genuinely anarchist standpoints (yet).

if we want these people to become aware of anarchism, then i think we ought to at least support their campaign (if not actually join it or let ourselves be subsumed into it, but i think most anarchists have enough experience of trot groups fucking them over to not fall into that trap), and on actions alongside them debate/discuss with them how their campaign fits into an anarchist standpoint, and perhaps get them to see from the police oppression they are directly experiencing to the anti-state/anti-capitalist wider picture.

of course, if that kind of dialogue gets nowhere, then we can then dissociate ourselves from trot/muslim dominated campaign groups, as anarchists usually do anyway. but we still shouldn't stop campaigning against police terror just because the trots and the muslims are also campaigning for/against the same thing...
