'Pathfinder' housing schemes

These are set to deolish 400,000 homes in the midlands and north of england in order to drive up house prices and make room for more luxury flats. Some analysts are already comparing it to the 1960/70s slum clearances and predicting urban unrest on a similar scale.

Here's an overview

and a look at some areas affected

and an interview with one of the community activists facing the destruction of her home

Anyone live in one of the areas mentioned?

I'm in Kensington in Liverpool (not from here though, only been living here a couple of years). It's currently pretty obvious that the full regeneration feeding trough is being swung in. We've got one of those new faith based city academies being built on Victorian parkland, one of the few bits of green space, there's whole streets boarded up by private landlords with 'Luxury Flats' and a date on the outside, house prices have tripled and that godawful daytime show, Homes Under the Hammer, seems to have a 'how to get rich off ex-council stock when the old biddy dies' bit in Kenny every day. And they closed the post office... sad

There does seem to be quite a bit of activity against it as well, certainly there are tenants groups up for a fight. I'm with a private landlord and I'm basically transient population so I don't really have much to do with it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it kicked off.
