some of us in Reading had been discussing this for a while but didn't get round to getting in touch with people.

I'm for it....it seems fairly likely that there'll be some anarchists going along anyway and I find forming a bloc with like-minded people a lot less demoralising than feeling like just another footsoldier for the Trots and other careerists. and providing a visible alternative to NUS et al can only be a good thing.

I know i wont bother going on a sunday. If it was on a weekday i bet the turnout would be much bigger cos of all the casuals who would turn up who would just be milling around and might be interested.

anyone who was at the education workers network meeting at the bookfair - at the end of the session we had a brief meeting to discuss this a bit further and put some e-mail addresses together, however, I ain't received anything and nor has a mate who did the same.

any updates?

also - publicity before the demo (callout etc.) - don't remember if we discussed this beforehand or not but think we need some. can't volunteer as am gonna be busy for the next few days .

trouble is, i had to "invite" all, rather than just add them to the list, so i am afraid that some people wont reply to the invite. I think i'll just chase everyone who hasn't next weekend.

Anyways, i bet all the people you had in your meeting would have added their email addresses to that list as well.

First I heard of this was posters up around bloomsbury yesterday. didn't realise it was a national thing and was fascinated to think there were enough anarcha-feminists/libertarian communists in bloomsbury that I didn't know to form a bloc. For obvious reasons less excited/fascinated by it now but will probably come along in any case, good to see familiar faces/meet a few new ones etc.

How are we doing for flags/banners? I can probably hunt down a bunch from of flags from the square (though sadly not all those we had for the mayday march). Are there any london-based meetings to prepare a banner?

Also - slogans? off the top of my head: 'free education at any cost', 'the ivory tower has been demolished - we have no illusions', 'the university: a factory like any other. Strike, occupy!', 'students, lecturers, cleaners, kitchen staff - solidarity or defeat!', 'students, lecturers - negate yourself'.

Hm. Critical thoughts please. Too pro-situ? Too pompous? reasoned critique and alternative proposals not flames, cheers. I have a day off on friday so I might dedicate some time to the production of placards & banners. If anyone in London wants a (more-or-less) central space to meet and work on their own stuff I can offer it - pm me.

hello everyone again,

It seems the final plan is to meet at Bedford square. We'll be meeting
there around 11am, in order to meet the main demo at 12am when they
start marching.

Autonomous Students will provide a banner and a flyer (see attachment).
The main contents of the flyer have been drawn up, although minor
changes may still be made. There is space for other organisations on
it,
so gimme' a name and I'll put it on.
Feel free to bring stuff yourself (of course).

For those that signed up at the bookfair, this is not about having a
black block on the demo, but about having an anarchist/libertarian
communist block.

We were hoping to organise an anarchist/libertarian-communist block
for the national keep the cap demonstration on the 29th of october (see
below for more details). The demo will be gathering at Malet street by
university of London Union.

The ideas for this block are the spreading of
anarchist/libertarian-communist ideas through banners, leaflets and
flags. We want to create a presence of anarchist politics,
make them a viable choice. We did not want the usual black block crowd,
but instead we wanted to show the non-violent/non-intimidating side to
our politics, based on mutual aid, self organisation and community
struggle.
