Latrobe Valley: Coal communities and climate activist meetings

a series of discussions being organised in the La Trobe Valley in the coming weeks. Full details below.

An Invitation to:

Community Roundtable Discussions on the future of coal, jobs, environment and community in the La Trobe Valley, involving workers, environmental campaigners, residents, students, parents and others.

How should the climate movement engage with 'coal communities' – with the people who currently live near, work in, and are dependent upon the coal industry?
How are climate activists, and the environment movement more broadly, viewed in these communities? Why?
What do we have in common? Should we be allies, opponents or what?
What do coal industry workers think about renewable energy?
What does a 'just transition' actually mean?
If you are invovled in climate change or coal campaigning in Victoria AND/OR if you live or work in the LaTrobe Valley (Victoria's Coal Centre), you are warmly invited to take part in facilitated community roundtable discussions involving environmental campaigners, coal & energy workers, local residents, and others.

The aim for these meetings is to provide an opportunity for different perspectives to be heard and shared – and a unique chance for climate activists from within and outside the valley to listen, share and connect with coal and energy workers and other LaTrobe Valley residents.

Come along to share, listen and connect with other perspectives, views and information.

Tea, coffee, snacks and other refreshments will be provided.

There three separate discussion meetings – you are welcome to come to one or more (please RSVP).
Details of the meeting topics, times and locations are below.

There will be transport organised from Melbourne to the meetings in Morwell (aprx 1.5 hours from Melbourne).

To RSVP, register your interest, or for any questions, contact Dan Musil on 0432 485 869 or at dan.musil@outlook.com

These discussions have been set up through an honours project at the University of Melbourne. For more information, contact Dan.
