The sw@p shop has been moved from it's previous date to June 8th, where it will be part of an anti-G8, and general anticapitalist stall on Norwich Haymarket as part of the call out for anti-G8 actions. Depending on how this goes this may continue for several days.
On Wednesday 9th is anti-G8 football details below:
A MISH-MASH OF HOME-MADE, GRASSROOTS TEAMS AND MUSIC
Why? On June 8th-10th the G8 summit will be staged on
Sea Island off the East coast of the USA. The meeting
is completely unaccountable and ndemocratic. The
island will be (virtually?)
impossible to access by the public.
Who? The G8 are the 8 richest countries in the world.
Their governments meet every year to discuss how to
enforce the progress of their economic project,
global capitalism, a system of
wealth accumulation for the few and wage slavery and
alienation for the majority.
Why football? Well, football isn't for everyone.
Neither is politics. When confronted by the force of
the most powerful governments on the planet and an
economic system which has a grip on EVERY
area of our life, its not surprising people don't turn
up to protest, to challenge that power on the
streets, let alone to vote. We're not asking for
tit-bits either. We know that nothing but a complete
change in society, the abandonment of this fake
democracy, a 'revolution' if you like, will really,
REALLY change our lives and prevent
another set of corrupt leaders taking power.
But we have to go one step at a time. We have to get
to know each other again, our neighbours, our
families, our friends, even the Earth. We have to find
trust and understanding so that we can build something
beautiful in the ashes of capitalism.
Our proposed game of football is a chance to play that
game of relearning. We want the spirit of play, music
and celebration to dominate. But we also want to
remember that by associating
and co-operating together, we are a powerful force. We
have within each of us the seeds of a new world.
Capitalism likes us all to be alienated and alone.
Whether you think you are too rich or too poor to
care, too sexy, too fat, too stressed, too spaced out,
too good or too goddammed bad (!) there is a place for
all of us in this great anti-mass movement against,
and blossoming repsonse
to, capitalism and its servile institutions. If none
of this has persuaded you that the G8 has to go then
at least come and have a game of football with music
from your own DJs.
Can i come? women, men, kids (old and young)
pensioners, punks, techno-freaks, pixies, jugglers,
anarco-mums, witches, fancy-dress, factory field
pesticide sparayers, call centre
wage slaves..you are all welcome. Bring..spare
footballs, cheerleaders (up to 2000 permitted!!),
music and instruments (of mass joy), DJs,fancy dress,
miles and miles of smiles, colour, an open mind, pic
nic food and drink.
Don?t bring...corporate sponsorship, multi-million
pound investors, agro, bosses.
Register on the day or by email - your team needs a
special name:
rebelfootyfest@yahoo.co.uk. Optional £5 reg. fee
goes towards publicity and future anti-G8 events.
IF YOU DON?T LIKE FOOTBALL COME FOR THE POLITICS. IF
YOU DON?T LIKE POLITICS COME FOR THE FOOTBALL. IF YOU
DON?T LIKE EITHER COME FOR THE FUN OF IT.
Disclaimer: When we talk about the horrors of
capitalism we try not to do it in amoralising tone
(but we failed). There are so many people
struggling to come to terms with the lack of control
in their lives and everyone must work out their own
position. We try not to sound as
if we are denying that capitalism has allowed for
great advances in some areas of some peoples lives.
But we want more than this! Of course its up to you to
decide if this is the best it can get but if you've
got any doubts...well, keep asking questions.
