Rossport Solidarity Camp

Two folk from the Rossport Solidarity camp in Ireland are over on a speaking tour. They'll be at the Basement this Thursday, 3rd Nov, at 7.30 pm.

There's more details of the politics of the camp in the organise section.

the guy's name is Terry. He has been at galway uni for the past few years and has been very busy at Rossport this summer. It's his phone number that's been used for contacts.

It was a shame. There were 15 people there. It was actually a very good meeting. Tracey was particularly interesting in her explanation of why the camp was set up and the background to the struggle.

I guess the weather didn't help. Maybe our advertising is poor too.

I think we need to consider what we can do to support Rossport. Terry and Tracey like the idea of actions at places other than Shell, or even suggested leafletting irish clubs and events.

There's a solidarity CD available - the song from the video in English and Irish. I can make copies if people want, though I'm not sure how much to ask for it. I'd have thought £3 or so would be about right. They've also got some bank details if anyone wants to make a regular donation to the camp.

Their feeling was that it'd be easy to get the camp up, but hard to get people to commit to staying there for a long time.

give us a copy of the cd and a bit of info and we'll mention it on the next radio show. we can play a track or two and if the cd is available from the basement then it links in well.

might be worth leafletting levenshulme as well, the levenshulme festical is coming up soon.
