They're already projecting a retirement age well into people's 70s - by which time, presumably, the average life expectancy will have dropped to 68 or less. Unless...

For the working class the UK is becoming a 2nd world country.

it's already broken into 70 in the UK as the 'target' age by middle of the century - probably will be brought forward as time goes on as well

Yes, I heard this on BBC (TV) also. I think the year projected for it to take effect is 2046. Must be an article on this on the BBC website.

I also agree that the ruling class will probably try to rubbish the concept of retirement well before then anyway. I can just imagine the propaganda campaigns now.

A wage slave until the day I die. The ruling classes really would have us live like animals if they could get away with it. They want everything, they are ruthless. Unless something comes along its just going to be misery.

nick clegg's spiel about how they're supposedly just trying to stop older people feeling like they're being 'thrown on the scrapheap' by raising the retirement age is the most galling.

Someone I know got made redundant at 50, a skilled worker with a wide background in engineering. When he goes to interviews he gets told his A levels aren't good enough, ignoring anything he might have done since the 70s. I'd be surprised if he had a "proper job" again.

This sort of discrimination only makes sense if the aim is to force wages down. So he'll be drawing dole until they can force him into a McJob or he catches up with the ever-increasing retirement age. And then the bastards will complain that he hasn't "saved" for his retirement.

Regards,

Martin
