Johnny Void: Universal Jobmatch – Do Not Sign!

Anti-universal jobmatch leaflet here in Microsoft Word so you can alter it and here in PDF format which you can print off and hand out to other claimants when you're at the Job Centre.

Really good links, cheers. I signed up the otherday when I was at this council funded charity thing that the job center told me about that is specifically targeted at young people and to try to get them into jobs and apprenticeships etc (they are not that bad and the people who work there are pretty alright, when I told them why I hadn't been there for a while [really depressed because of things] they were understanding and helped put me into contact with a counseling thing.

The guy showed me the email he had been sent by the job center people and at the bottom it said in bold writing "strongly advise people to enable your adviser to monitor your activity" and stuff. Luckily when I was on the laptop signing up to it the guy wasn't around so I only called him over to say Im done when I had already gone to the next page without clicking that box. Looks like I'm definitely going to de register immediately.

Don't forget to enquire about the free bus pass (the 'JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card', see here and here) that you may be eligible for at your next appointment. smile

It is not mandatory for a Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimant to give DWP access to their Universal Jobmatch account. Access is only granted voluntarily by you once you tick the box in your Universal Jobmatch profile which says:

“I authorise DWP to view my accounts , including jobsearch activity, feedback and notes”

This is from the DWP in response to an Freedom of Information (FOI) request which you can view here (and print off).

As for de-registering see:

Revoke consent, Tick boxes and Work Programme notes

I had the bad adviser the other day and scored a home run smile . When she asked me to sign up to Universal Jobmatch it was certainly more an order than a polite open-ended question (would your travel agent demand you go somewhere?). I said timidly that I was concerned about my privacy citing Channel 4 news along with the La Cosa Nostra drug smuggler and MI6 hitman vacancies, she emphatically said that they weren't true and there had otherwise been reassurances. So I said that it's not mandatory according to the DWP and PCS Union (I had the paperwork with me) but she still insisted I sign up. So I responded by saying with more confidence now and that extra bit louder so others could hear that she was contradicting DWP rules. That was the end of that, at least until after the new year...

In terms of the benefit system and your rights, I've found knowledge is both power and confidence.

Had my meeting today. Due to them fucking up and cancelling my appointment with my new adviser (30 mins before said appointment) and re arranging it for when I was meant to be signing on, I was sort of confused as to whether I was signing on, seeing my adviser, or both etc. I did bring my diary thing but its been empty for the last 2 weeks, so when it turned out I was going to be signing on, I just said that I had forgotten it so the adviser did a sort of verbal check instead so I essentially just lied, I said I signed up to it but I actually de registered a couple days ago. I had printed off the faq on the dwp site so I could prove it was not compulsory anyway but Im hoping if they think Im already on there, they wont check, or, if they try to and cant, they will just think its because I've not ticked that box. They may ask me to tick the box next time but I doubt it because I was told today that the next meeting would be 40 minutes checking details and sorting out my referral to work programme starting in January -_-

Unemployed to be forced to sign up to Universal Jobmatch website at the centre of security concerns

FUCK I love how during the riots all the politicos were like "don't riot organise" and then it turns out that they/we haven't a clue how to, e.g. "it's trial and error blah blah"

I was talking to another claimant yesterday and apparently the the JSA adviser whom I describe above has previously been suspended, which makes me think what exactly does one have to do/ how callous does one have to be to be disciplined by the DWP??

IT IS NOT MANDATORY! YIPPIE!

Quote:
Jobcentre Plus has been instructed not to mandate claimants to use Universal Jobmatch or issue Jobseeker’s Directions or benefit sanctions until some changes have been made to the service to support this.

I had the decent adviser at my last appointment and when I objected, she confirmed that UJ was NOT mandatory atm. She still advised that I sign up, but not give consent for them to track/ contact me. Needless to say I refused.

NL Solfed have produced this for English and Polish speaking claimants:

I had a simalar situation unfortunatly I was told that I had to sign up to it (at this point I had only heard a few people mention it and no details) and because I didn't tick that box the next time I went to sign the woman signing me basically said that I would either have to give conscent or show up early and print off a copy of the activity history page because they no longer accept the job seaker diaries as proof of looking for work. if I knew then what I know now I would have informed her of my rights and why I do not have to sign up to universal jobsearch.
