Shakedown '05, 12th March, Nottingham

just got this in an email from brum social centre list, this sounds pretty fucking cool... anyone up for going?

Quote:
Shakedown*05 is a very big one-off non-profit DIY all-night event that tries to bring together as large a variety of music and people as possible. Various free party collectives, sound systems, bars, cafés, campaign groups and individuals from in and around Nottingham are putting this extraordinary thing together. Probably one of the biggest and best parties that Nottingham has ever seen, it tries to raise awareness of some global issues such as world poverty, climate change and world leading institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and the G8 among people in a positive way.

The date is 12th of March, Nottingham, UK. It will feature a large number of bands, dj’s, breakdance crews, art performances, a visuals fest, refreshments, cocktail bar and chill space, art exhibitions, film showings, info, and maybe even a trapeze act...

On various stages throughout the night people will be shaking down to Jump-up Live Party Hip Hop, Heavy Dub Reggae, Hard House, Pissed off Punk Rock, Horny Horns Ska, Dirty Drum & Bass, Rabble Rousing Folk, Banana Broken Beats, Beefhearty-Hillbilly Funk, Filthy Techno, Boogie Blues, Warped-out Punk Disco, Skankin’ Soul and Jolly Jungle.

apparently they have a website at http://www.m12.org.uk ... off to check that out now...

A little bit of extra info for those too lazy to click the link wink

We've got 4 of Nottingham's best soundsystems - Smokescreen, Dagobah, DIY, Section 6 - coming together for an anti-G8 fundraiser in a large squatted venue (1000+) to be announced on the night. Loads of other stuff too - Fever DJ's, Rick Donohue, Simon DK, Nick Shaw...or if you like your punk there's P.A.I.N, Inner Terrestrials & Idiot Joy playing; if you like hip-hop there's DJ Rubbish & BC 400; if ska is more your thing we've got Bison - and other bands including Old Basford, Grain & Lightning Tree with more being confirmed...all of these will be on various stages and rooms.

Tickets cost £5 (the whole event is non-profit) so if you're interested check out www.m12.org.uk !

Cheers folks, hope you can make it =)

The entry is only £5 but it is suggested you get a ticket in advance; this would also gain access to the pre-events at the Moog Bar, Alley Cafe and the Sumac Bar on the night. Tickets available at Selectadisc, Funky Monkey, A Records, the pre-events and various shops and bars around the UK. Please check website for more details.

“ Everybody involved is doing it for love, all performers, crew and organisers are doing this for free and it's a lot of work but we reckon it's worth it, people are coming from all around the country so we want it to be the best party that we can get together."

Check out the website on www.m12.org.uk. Venue info available on the night on 07910 428895 / 07910 428896 and at the Pre-events

it's now saying "you're spoofed, this is a private party" on the website confused

anyone know what that's about? is this thing not real?

Yes it's very real. The private party disclaimer is there for legal reasons - the only thing making the event dodgy legally was the selling of tickets as it made it a 'public' party and therefore liable to all sorts of entertainment laws. Just turn up at the door and pay £5 and you're in. The 'Y'r spoofed' relates to the 'it's a private party' notice - they could have worded it a bit better to be honest; I knew there'd be confusion when I saw it.
