HiWhat about all those losers who espouse all that merciful-family-values-love-thy-neighbour twaddle but remain secular? The British Humanist Association and the National Secular Society are easily as bad as the Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and Rastas.
In fact they’re worse, they’re all stick and no carrot. Irrational notions of metaphysical morality abound, self hatred and authoritarian conditioning creating strung out value systems that reward sacrifice over performance.

Hi LR,
A tad unfair I think. Surely the underlying point of humanism/secularism is to counter the god-botherers' claim that only faith stops people behaving badly towards each other. I'm a humanist for that reason. I try not to fuck people over because I wouldn't like to be fucked over, I need neither carrot nor stick. Beyond that basic agreement, I've encountered plenty of different views/approaches from humanists.
Some of them don't much like what i consider to be amongst their best work - which is the ceremonies (funerals, weddings, namings). Most humans have a need to mark these significant times in their lives - being able to do it without the intervention of a deity none of the participants much care for seems a good thing.

Hi
I find it can provide a sense of well being. Also, I might be willing to pay people to do it, provided it was especially entertaining and the victims suitably loathsome.
