Good anime/ manga films

I don't know where to start so can anyone, preferably emos, scene kids and manchildren BLAP BLAP YEUH, recommend any decent anime/ manga films? They don't have to be political.

My Little Pony OwO

What's your game girl? I don't watch much myself but I really enjoyed The Girl That Leapt Through Time and I'm a long-time fan of Keroro Gunsou.

Bottom line is, most of it is shit that just caters to the internets of fat white male otaku kids in their 20s. Think Zero no Tsukaima... ugh.

Supposed to be good:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/19/Monster
http://myanimelist.net/anime/6114/Rainbow:_Nisha_Rokubou_no_Shichinin
(haven't watched either but they're supposed to be deep)

I also enjoyed the fuck out of http://myanimelist.net/anime/1292/Afro_Samurai though I guess it's technically not anime. Other classics I can recommend are Akira and Ninja Scroll.

Only advice I can give you is to stay the fuck clear of overrated crap like Neon Genesis Evangelion and shitty romcom like Kanon or Clannad, just thinking of them makes me want to slit my wrists

Monster is mint, although it's a 60 episode epic about a doctor chasing a psychopath round Germany. Try Serial Lain if you want something fruity, and Welcome the NHK is good drama.

Serial Experiments Lain is for people who like to wonder what the fuck they just watched.

Heard good things about Welcome to the NHK too, but sounds kinda special to me (as in only fully appreciated by the otaku crowd like Genshiken, but I may be wrong on that)

I thought it was pretty lucid. It ain't half as bad (or shite, I never decided) as Technolyxe.

And yeah, think you're wrong about Welcome to the NHK. It's a pretty accesible series and I found it dismissive of that whole crowd and the fandom with it.

Been a good while since I watched SEL, but I remember not getting the ending... maybe I should rewatch the series. The opening song is one of my favorites though.

One more recommendation: Vampire Hunter D, the new one (Bloodlust). Simply beautiful and a feast for the eyes, story ain't as cliche-ridden as your usual anime but I can understand not giving a fuck about vampires anymore. Didn't care much for the first one, a tad bit too oldschool for my taste.

I think I'll give Welcome to the NHK a shot, can't be worse than K-On now can it.

Ghost in the Shell the Film is pretty good. It was a pretty influential cyber punk movie.

Never watched many of these but I liked PAt-labor, I've actually got the 3rd one but never watched it.

By Miyazaki: Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, My Neighbour Tototoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I also recommend Ghost in the Shell, though the manga (i.e. the comic) is much better and come to think of it so it the TV-series (Ghost in the Shell: SAC). Anime shows that I recommend: Full Metal Alchemist, Berserk, Serial Lain, Gunslinger Girl.

There. I just outed myself as a big nerd.

I really like Full Metal Alchemist. Cowboy Bebop is worth checking out. When I was younger I really got into the (American re-edits of) Robotech. It still stands up to re-watching, too. Deathnote was the last series I really got into.

The Ghost in the Shell OST is on pretty high rotation.

Twilight of the Cockroaches was pretty great. And, of course, anything done by Studio Ghibli is amazing.
I agree PATlabor was great, though I've only seen 1 & 2.

So I guess we're just a bunch of fucking weeaboos.

Dear god in heaven, here we go... o(-`д´- 。)

Death Note was cool until the first half was over, then it degenerated into a giant clusterfuck. Had high hopes for it, but eh...

Adding to the chorus of Ghibli/Miyazaki fans. Cowboy Bebop is another great one. I enjoyed the first Full Metal Alchemist series more than Brotherhood, but I think I'm in the minority for that one.

The Ghost in the Shell TV series is pretty decent, but it has periods of pretty strange politics. The second season is focused on some kind of degenerated Leninist revolutionary, like a Japanese Che. Props to the story, though.

Recommending Steins;gate as an urban sci-fi with time travel. There's also a movie called Time of Eve that's pretty good, deals with androids and their place in society. Includes a cooperative cafe for your mutualist pleasure.

Freakin' liberal-hippie lumpenprole, obviously didn't see the class struggle elements in this one. angry

Thanks, gotta check that one out, I don't keep up with anime trends... (mainly because I get the feeling each season the series get more poopy)

I liked Mitsudomoe but you'll have to be a bit fucked in the head to fully enjoy that one... (and it gets into the otaku fringe area)

By the way, if you were into Afro Samurai, you should definitely look into Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. They ooze cool like that.

I just thought of Planetes. It's about garbage collectors in space (earth's orbit). It's got sort of a labour oriented.

I'm guessing that series was a nod to one of the vignettes from Memories, 'cause they do the same job.

AKIRA !!!

About as fucked up as a film could ever get.

My girl likes all that Studio Ghibli stuff which is nice I guess but it's always a bit pansy.

Cowboy Bebop was sooooo awesome (the show that is, movie was kinda disappointing.

Yeah, I'd agree with Bewildered. Studio Ghibli is a bit tame, did't like "Howl's Moving Castle" at all, but I did kind of like Porco Rosso for some reason.

Akira is the dog's bollocks though. A bit hard to sit through in one sitting I think, but they did well adapting it from the comic series, which are even more mammoth and ace.

I've seen Akira more than 10 times, and I still don't really know what's going on in it.

I once saw an anime. It was called, "Go outside you loser ^_^"

It was pretty weird. It was just some white lettering that said "GO OUTSIDE" on a black background, interspliced with crudely drawn and criminally illegal hardcore pornography.

Don't know how they were able to wring two hundred episodes out of that

^_^
