Kamunist Kranti film - "Many Straws Make a Nest: Proletarian Unrest in Delhi's Industrial Belt" (2010)

2010 documentary film from the Berlin-based group KanalB, "made in close cooperation with" Gurgaon Workers News & Faridabad Majdoor Samachar, and "developed within the framework of" Visions of Labor.

The film deals with the recent struggles of precarious migrant workers from rural areas in the export-processing zones of Faridabad and Gurgaon, including the Hindi workers' newspaper project associated with the Kamunist Kranti group, and clips from large-scale violent struggles in the past. The DVD also has a clip interviewing college-educated call center workers in the area. It's mainly talking heads, but it's a rare and well-put-together window into the important world of migrant workers' struggles in the Global South. And the music is ace wink

The main part of the film can be viewed online for free with subtitles in English and German. (The narration is in English and the interviews are in Hindi.)

The full DVD (with extra clips and subtitles also in Polish and Chinese) can be purchased and downloaded or mailed here.

The version with Chinese subtitles can be downloaded for free here.

KanalB's blurb:

Quote:
In the last 20 years, the Delhi region has turned into one of the
world's major industrial hubs. The required workforce is recruited from India's poorer regions, where survival is being made more and more difficult for the rural populace.

This is why 4.5 million industrial workers in Southern Delhi are willing
to ruin their health for wages their families can hardly survive on. -
People are almost powerless in this situation, but still they try to
find effective ways to collectively resist.
