Species and Class Update Thread

We were told by Libcom admin that if links to articles on our site were kept in one thread, it should be OK.

Did Emma Goldman Write Pro-Animal Article?

Did Emma Goldman write a pro-animal article? Not a shred of evidence to suggest she did but one of the dozens of contributors to Mother Earth might have, under a pseudonym. Well, there's two minutes of my life I'm never going to get back.
And next week's insightful article - Alexander Berkman. Dog or cat person?

Why on earth are you posting up these links and then when people engage with them you don't bother to even reply? It's rather disrespectful to those that do bother to read your blog posts and write something up. And in connection to that, what do you think you achieve with just posting up links to your website? It seems pointless unless all you want is to game google or something.

Definitively a cat person.

I'm so glad you've got your own personal spam thread. It would be even nicer if you responded to any of the ensuing discussion on the drivel you keep posting.

Lenin was a cat lover. That finally convinced me.

Though it needs to be remembered that cats are an politically suspicious strata. That passively rotting mass thrown off by the lowest layers of the old society, may, here and there, be swept into the movement by a proletarian revolution; its conditions of life, however, prepare it far more for the part of a bribed tool of reactionary intrigue.

Most cats are either declassed aristocrats or simply lumpen.

But holy shit how could I forget about our comrades wildcats:

They're in the vanguard just like moles. But that's just an exception. One of my cats, half-Siamese half-tabby (a mesalliance!) has already hunted moles in the past. So little does this aristocrat conceal the reactionary character of his criticism that his chief accusation against the bourgeois amounts to this, that under the bourgeois régime a class is being developed which is destined to cut up root and branch the old order of society.

Yeah cats oscilliate between fascism and other lunatic right (legitimism, integralism, Conservative Revolution etc.) and Stirnerite petty-bourgeois anarcho-individualism ("Nothing but ME!").

My cat currently, her mother is a purebred Persian and her father is a 3-legged tom. True story.

Oh, for Species and Class, I asked this on another thread without response, but I'll ask it here again.

Is speciesism the same as anthropocentrism?

Dismissive term for anti-animal socialists needed

http://speciesandclass.com/2014/08/14/dismissive-term-for-anti-animal-so...

Like... What? What good will that do but alienate those on the receiving end from even listening to you? Insults are a bad substitute for arguments.

As a libcom who happens to have a vegan diet can I suggest,

Jesus, that article is shocking on so many levels. I don't pretend to be a perfect feminist, but the idea that anarchist men who minimize problems of patriarchy in the movement are on the same level as people who don't recognize the problems of "speciesism" in the movement is just shocking.

In any case, I'm pretty sure a decent bit of that article must be directed at libcom and I'm slightly offended we didn't get a shout out.

Yup, still no engagement from the bloggers. If you're convinced of your ideas you should be able to discuss them with people who disagree. Who knows, you may be able to better explain them and perhaps even convince a few of some of your arguments. So why this drive by linking tactic, which most of us just view as spamming. Please come and discuss; moderators can make sure the discussion is civil and I'll gladly stop the pot shots if you are willing to engage.

Well said, but I expect the blogger has no real interest in debate. Either they like stirring up the hornets nest or more likely just want to put their writings out there for the sake of vanity.

And for a dismissive term for Speciecandclass and his/her ilk... how about Bovialist? Proponent of social shepherdocracy? Dogarchist? Vegan-spam-generator?

Or maybe just keep it simple and stick with bell end.

Yup, or to get their blog higher up on google searches. I assume libcom with lots of incoming links is more important than most other anarchist websites. It's rather pathetic if that is the case. But since they don't bother to engage I'm sure they won't even bother to deny this. I mean they should take a note of that other thread where you're a bit pissed off. If I was an animal rights person I would jump straight into the discussion, but nope.

I told you people to purge vegans but you didn't listen! Now they're making the Green Thermidor...
