thread for what editors are editing news articles for and why, so contributors can comment + see what's being done, and to help people get a feel for how tagging is used.
i just edited the peru news article for a typo (toxic for toxi)
nicaragua abortion story -
a - it's fucked up
b - nica is in north america!
c - CAPITALS in title
swissport - great story
- airports is all transport tag - other transport sub tags are rail, roads, shipping, docks
- exploitation is too vague, deleted
- added stansted cos have content already and airport stuff likely to continue to have lots of news...
- capitals in title
you know how to add pics Sorry? just find a good pic using google image or somethin (not BBC or AP or too copyrighted tho), save to your PC, then click Browse in img thing. it auto-resizes it for you.
PCS -
- unions we use tags, they're not counted as groups
- work to rule + on-the-job action tags added
thanks for sorting them out John, reckon I can register all that for next time.
the Nicaragua story was fucked up, can't imagine the mindset that reacts to a 9 yr old girl's rape/abortion like that.
how's the council housing one? btw, if anyone can think of a way of upping the amount of content from participants on that, it'd be good.
yup that's great, looks like you've got the hang of it!
i just added general tag "housing" as well, but meh, tagging's pretty subjective, there's no 100% right way. nice one
one more thing.
Generally if we get more than 3-4 articles on one day, we try to delay publishing the rest until the next morning/afternoon (or later that evening etc. etc.) - that way it keeps news ticking over every few hours, rather than all at once then nothing for a day or two. Obviously scoops/uptotheminute stuff doesn't count for that.
You should see scheduling options on the submissions form - if you don't, or it's not obvious how it works, then let us know and we'll sort it out.
ok, will bear in mind.
i've tried using that, not been able to get it to work...
works fine for me. You just have to copy the date, and then modify it for the "publish on" bit.
oaxaca piece - v cool.
we use uprisings tag so swapped for insurrection.
edited intro to say popular assembly rather than acronym.
added "military and law enforcement tag".
hmm yeah i wasn't sure about that... have been using more "repression" tag for stuff like that, military etc. more about stuff about workers in the sector (mutinies etc.)
joseph - we have NHS stuff under health not public sector; in lots of places healthcare's not in the public sector! like here soon...
oops, i didn't see the category, despite knowing it was there :?
catch - changed raytheon to manufacturing not military, cos they're not in the military...
OK cool, I couldn't find anything for defense/arms industry so made a tag in the end, put it in military before I did that.
hmmm weird, cos there is arms industry tag already:
http://libcom.org/tags/arms-industry
but yours has created new one :?
http://libcom.org/tags/arms-industry-0

i see what happened, was old tags "arms" which i deleted industry from. have brought it back tho.
john posting -
rkn deleted military cos is duplicate tag
- added mutinies catch-all for non-obeying of orders, and refuseniks, added picture
- shortened intro to less than 3 lines.
rkn, swapped education for schools, cos already edu+learning sector.
will remove repression too cos it wasn't that bad...
also was there a reason it was left in moderate? for others to check it?
ret - swapped deaf for disability cos we have stuff already
catch - added refuse collection
news looking v good recently!!
oaxaca
- caps in headline
- 9 -> nine
great to see news stories followed up on!
pingtiao - cool shell story.
swapped tags occupations for community cos more descriptive, also removed tag AP - we don't tag the author if it's a press agency we've plagiarised!
added tag Shell cos they're a big company we have a bunch of stuff about. Otherwise neat.
Sorry - bunch of cool stories but Capitalisation In Titles.
zobag - Workplace activity was for library 1st person accounts of stuff they've done at work, not news stories about strikes, etc. News is looking awesome by the way - good work everyone
think it will take a little while before views catch up with increased frequency of updates but it'll happen...
pingtiao - cool shell story.swapped tags occupations for community cos more descriptive, also removed tag AP - we don't tag the author if it's a press agency we've plagiarised!
There's an "AP" on the bottom as well...
b - nica is in north america!
Shitbags. I just made that mistake too. Is there a way of acessing submitted but not yet published news? Cos then I can edit it, then edit my post here, and then no one will know I thought Nicaragua was in South America.
Workplace activity tagging - oops sorry won't do it again!

admin >> content should do it.

Cool- won't tag by agency again and will remove author at bottom- didn't know whether to create a shell tag as haven't submitted to the newswire before.
peru article
great article, but few things:
title - only proper nouns caps
sector - it's energy
tags - we decided we didn't want protests - already has demos, so deleted, demos is less important than occupations here, so deleted too. added key tag environment.
otherwise ace!
