Ripping CD's

Yea, so, my uber sexy iriver H320 arrived today. After amusing myself for several hours loading Marx onto it after discovering the text reader, I decided I should put some music on. I'm not at home so don't have my MP3's here, and Soulseek is being shite, so can someone recomend a decent ripping program, that'll get ID3 info off CDDB or something similar.

If there's something that'll rip to Ogg, that'd be even better.

Oh, and not Audiograbber, it's shite.

Yeah. Audiograbber's "LAME" tongue

My free copy of magix studio 6 deluxe ripped a limited number, but I'm back to using audiograbber now.

I'm sharing magix 6 deluxe on shareaza

I use CDex. It crashes sometimes but it's pretty good otherwise. Tags and everything.

http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

I think that should answer your questions. I downloaded it a long time ago and it was free then.

Yes, but to be fair, far more reasons TO buy one.

Nah...you're paying for the brand rather than the machine. It's pretty crap considering you have to send it in for a new battery after 18 months - 2 years and you can't use it as a hard drive.

This is why I'm getting one of those snazzy Creative Zen 30GB Jukeboxes., which costs half as much and according to teh 1337 h4x0rZ is 1000 times better. Just not as shiney cool on the outside. 8)

Ah, well, you see I can't afford the aestheticly pleasing alternative so I'm more than happy to settle for the cheaper one.

The creative one I'm getting has those minus the video. But you can buy one that has those too, but I don't really care about that shit. I only paid £120. 8)

Is Radio 4 the official station of the revolution, then?

P.S. On radio 1 they'll be playing the new Idlewild song on Lamaq's Jan 2nd show. Record it for me and I'll give you...50 pence!

My mp3 player has an amazing 256 meg, oh no, just checked, its 128, and I can tell you are both jealous. It also had a thing that meant it could hang round your neck, so it didn't take up vital pocket space, but that broke when I Leant it to a friend.

Edited to add, after saying that I got nostalgic about the hanging around the neck thing, picked it up and it now works. Enrager has fixed it.

Aye but your 1 and 0's are cutting out a great deal of information. People with (extremely) good ears will hear and notice the subtle difference between a CD recording and even a 256kbps mp3 rip. And only insane people rip everything at 320. Granted, most of the frequencies cut out you can't hear, anyway, but there is a certain texture to the sound lost in the binary. But you can easily recompense for this to a certain extent with good equalisation settings.

Do I even know what I'm on about anymore???

I wasn't really talking about vinyl...although old analogue recorded vinyl are teh pwn. New vinyl is just CD quality with skips and crackles and more noise.

analog recording, in theory, is better than digital, but you need a damn good ear and the best music system you can imagine to be able to notice the difference, so a decent mp3 will do for me.

And ogg is open source so obviously better although much less supported.
