*** Notice to all students ***

For fuck's sake, will you please contribute to discussions in your seminar groups. And maybe do the 5 pages of reading for it from the one book that you have to buy for the course. And don't turn up 20 minutes late. And don't sign in and then fuck off immediately. Or eat crisps. Or text your mates. Or claim that you haven't heard of something that the lecturer repeated five times and specifically told you to make a note of. angry

nah, you're right, it fucking sucks when that happens. Sadly for me this year I have the opposite problem - several FUCKING ANNOYING idiots in classes who - despite having not done any reading or having any knowledge of ideas beyond average liberal "lefty" shit - still won't shut up, listen to anyone else, accept any form of criticism or debate, cos they just know these things.

For example, in my anthropology of development class (basically a course pointing out the flaws in development agencies and NGOs and the whole idea of development) some fucking tit who, because her grangparents pay for her to go to India for 3 months every year, has to have the final word in everything cos she's been there, man, she's seen REAL poor people and therefore understands what poor people "need" from the West (which is, according to her, Bob Geldof and Coldplay and George Galloway).

So cos they're coming with this idea that they already know everything, they never bother to read anything that might challenge this view (pretty much everything we read is critical of the whole MPH approach), they just continue to spout the same old shit.

Hmm, maybe I'll just smack her.

Man, I was listening to an argument in my history of globalisation lecture the other week with a girl who went on holiday to india, and decided that sweatshops are a good idea because "it means they can save their money and eventually that will give them political power".

After a while I couldn't resist, and joined in. When she said "they have the choice of working in a sweatshop or making no money on poor farmland", I suggested that they divide up the workable land (i.e. the land that coca cola and the rich own) and farm it themselves. She did not like that idea.

But what do I know? I've never even been to India!

Sounds great to me. Is she really sure? Because it would be really cruel otherwise, worse than dumping toxic waste.
